Alky's Fundraising
Posted by Calvin Chang 5:16 PM PDT
Just want everybody to know that they should bring 25 dollars each to the game on Sunday (both A and B teams). Bob will have books of raffle tickets for everybody to sell.
The First Prize is a free round of golf for 4 at Country Meadows
The Second Prize is a wine making kit
The Third Prize is food from Tino's
I believe the tickets are $2 each or 3 for $5. We need to raise around $700 for Bob and Rick to recoup the money they spent on getting our jerseys, it's either that or we pay out of our pockets.

Alky's B Double Header Weekend Results
Posted by Calvin Chang 2:40 PM PDT
Alky's played a double header this weekend against the Dragons.
On Friday, Alky's beat the Dragons by a score of 6-3. Phil set a new Alky's record by scoring 1.3 seconds off a faceoff in their zone. Rob set the tone in the first 7 seconds of the game by scoring off the faceoff while Tajiri blasted 2 past the Dragons goalie, with 1 of them coming 7 seconds after another faceoff.
On Saturday, Alky's beat the Dragons in a close 4-3 game. Dragons took an early lead by scoring 2 goals and holding the Alky's scoreless in the first period. Alky's rallied back by scoring a goal in the first minute of the second period. The Dragons answered back with another goal making it 3-1. At this point, the Alky's turned it up a notch and scored 3 goals. The game winner was scored by Rob. Tajiri ran a beautiful pick, getting knocked down in the process, which gave Rob enough time to blast it past the goalie. Alky's then got a penalty with 1:47 to go. The Dragons pulled their goalie for a 2 man advantage. Phil played beautifully during the PK by blocking 2 shots, in fact, Dragons didn't even get a shot on net during the PP. Colin kept us in the game the whole time by stopping at least 2 breakaways.

Alky's beat the Backdoor Bandits by a score of 8-3 on the 29th.
Alky's A Score Updates
Posted by Calvin Chang 6:03 PM PDT
Alky's have lost 3 in a row this last week. Every game was a close game with the Alky's only losing by 1 goal.
The Alky's lost 5-4 to the Mighty Plumbers on May 28th.
Alky's also lost a close game 13-12 to the Eagles. We were able to engineer a comeback by scoring 3 goals in the span of 2 minutes. The last goal came with 3 seconds left on the clock. The Eagles even had an empty net goal. The shootout almost went through the complete roster before being settled by the 10th shooter. This game also saw Kenny credited with 7 points (3 goals and 4 assists).
Alky's lost yesterday to the Bluez by a score of 4-3. Alky's were missing some key players and Bob would like to remind anybody who is going to miss a game that they should call Tino's and inform him so that we can find a substitute to play.

Alky's Beat the Bluez
Posted by Calvin Chang 5:21 PM PDT
Alky's beat the Bluez last night by a score of 5-3. The game was highlighted by a line brawl that ended up with the Bluez losing a player and the Alky's losing Kenny for the game. Good job Kenny for jumping in when Winston was being double teamed. The result of the brawl was an Alky's 2 man advantage power play. At this point we were deadlocked at a 2-2 tie. Alky's were unable to score on the powerplay but managed 2 quick goals after the powerplay had expired to take the lead and hold it.

Alky's A Score Updates
Posted by Calvin Chang 10:29 PM PDT
Alky's beat the Mighty Plumbers in their first game of the season by a score of 9-3 (I believe, I can't remember anymore or it was 9-2).
Alky's then played the Eagles and lost by a score of 7-5 (I think again).
Alky's last game was against the Scorpions. I know we won but I can't remember what the score was.
Alky's B Score Updates
Posted by Calvin Chang 10:26 PM PDT
Alky's beat Praetorians by a score of 6-4 in a hard fought close game. Alky's tired out the Praetorians goalie with an unending barrage of shots at the end of the 2nd period, thus allowing us to score two quick goals to take the lead. Phil scored the insurance shortly afterwards.
Alky's lost against the Wolverines by a score of 4-3 in another close fought game. We look forward to facing them again.

Playoff schedules have been posted. None of the team slots have been filled in yet as it's not certain where we will finish. Take a look at it anyway. We will most likely finish 2nd or 3rd. Also note that we will be playing 3 times a week during the playoffs and that we will have a long break between the regular season and the playoffs. Our last game of the season is on the 9th while the first game of the playoffs for us will be on the 24th.
I will most likely be missing the first playoff game as I have an exam scheduled at 7pm on that day. My exam will last 75 minutes. I should be able to make the game if we finish 3rd in the standing.
Injuries
Posted by Calvin Chang 8:31 PM PST
Robbie hurt his leg playing hockey for his Burnaby team so he will be out for a month or two, which means that he will most likely miss the playoffs for ice but should be back for roller. Rick will be filling in for him when he is available.
Rumour is that Cam may be back on the 15th of March. Here's hoping that he will be back to help us in the playoffs.

Playoff Positioning
Posted by Calvin Chang 11:40 PM PST
I just took a look at the standings for Division 6. We are currently tied in points with Pac Rim, but are ahead of them as we have more wins (we also have more goals for). This makes our last game crucial to our standings for the playoffs. If Pac Rim won their game against the Pumphouse Pythons, then our last game with them will be crucial as they could overtake us.
In addition to this, if the Dragons win their last 2 games, and we lose our game against Pac Rim, they could move ahead of us depending on how many goals for they have or the difference between their goals for and their goals against.
Alkys B roller team
Posted by Calvin Chang 6:09 PM PST
I've submitted all the information we need (I hope) for the Early Registration deadline for PICH. I had a little discussion with a few of our players and we have agreed to apply for tier 5 as we have lost a lot of our scoring power. Issues that still need to be resolved are who gets the A's (I will be C this year) and lines.
Fees are also due on April 30th. The Fees are actually $185 dollars. This increase is to cover a scorekeeper (let's hope they actually show up this season) and for a $10 administration fee so that we don't need to submit new photos for all returning players. Bob has been gracious enough to grudgingly write a cheque for the whole team when the time comes, so I want everybody who hasn't paid to go to Tino's and pay by April 30th. Those who do not pay will be mercilessly hounded by me for money and may see their spot on the team disappear.
Alkys defeat Seaforth
Posted by Calvin Chang 6:04 PM PST
Alkys defeated the Seaforth Highlanders by a score of 11-6. Stewart scored 2 quick goals within the first 40 seconds of the game but then Seaforth came back with 3 goals of their own. The Alkys answered with a flurry of goals to retake and hold the lead. Congrats to Stewart for scoring 4 goals and congrats to Robbie for getting a whopping 5 points with 2 goals and 3 assists.

Fees for Alky's B Roller
Posted by Calvin Chang 8:23 PM PST
Alky's B team can save some money (I believe it was 200 or 300 dollars) if they are able to pay 175 dollars to Tino's by the end of this month. Inquiries are to be directed at Neel.

Alky's will be losing long time defenceman Cam Gardner for the rest of the season as he will be exploring Australia. Alky's will also be without goal tender Colin Charron for at least 5 games as he will also be going on vacation. We all wish you guys have a safe, relaxing and fun trip.
Cam will be replaced by Jeremy Hope, who has already been subbing for us in past games. Welcome aboard Jeremy.

Alky's win streak snapped at 5 (again)
Posted by Calvin Chang 7:32 PM PST
Alky's lost to the Aeros 8-4 tonight. Don't let the score fool you, Colin was phenomenal in net. It could have been a lot worse. The Aeros even congratulated him for his stellar play and were frustrated as evidenced by their yelling during the game. Congratulations also go out to Ferguson for scoring 4 goals this game possibly setting an Alky's record (gonna have to check on that).
This was the last game before the Christmas/New Year's Break. We are trying to setup an exhibition game that will hopefully be held between Christmas and New Year's. We will also be taking a team picture at that time, so all members please show if you want to be in the picture.

Alky's beat Seaforth Highlanders by a score of 12-3. It's worth mentioning that Seaforth only had a total of 6 players and a goalie. "Hopefully the next time we play we can resume a good rivalery." Congrats to Nader for scoring one of the best goals of the season so far.

Alky's first win in Div 6
Posted by Calvin Chang 10:07 PM PST
Alky's got a hard fought victory tonight with a 6-5 win over the Pumphouse Pythons handing them their first loss of the season.
Alky's got in trouble early in the 1st by giving up a shorthanded goal with 12:24 left in the first and then giving up another a minute later with 11:13 left in the first. The Pumphouse Python's extended their lead by scoring a goal on the power play to make it 3-0. Alky's didn't give up though with Cam breaking the goose egg with 4:37 left assisted by Ferguson. Chin scored, unassisted, shorthanded with 0:03 left to bring the Alky's back into the game (note the scoresheet said that Jeremy scored but I was notified by E-mail by Chin that he was the one who scored and on further thought and discussion between me and Hui, we agree). Signs of life were starting to show on the Alky's bench.
The 2nd period opened up in the Alky's favor with Stewart scoring unassisted with 11:46 left in the 2nd. Pythons also managed to slip one by Colin with 0:17 left ending the 2nd with the score being 4-3 for the Pythons.
Alky's again opened the 3rd with a goal by Ferguson who was assisted by Stewart and Jeremy. Alky's got in some penalty trouble and gave up another goal to the Python's powerplay with 9:51 to go in the 3rd.
It was all Alky's from then on. Stewart bulged the twine with 4:26 left in the 3rd, assisted by Cam, and Jeremy put it away with 1:27 left assisted by Stewart and Cam.

Saturday's First League Game

We lost our first game of the season against the Pac Rim by a 2-4 score. After falling 0-4 after two periods, Steve Ferguson opened our scoring and Bob pulled our team to within two, with his goal coming late in the game. A decent first game effort by our team, against our last year's nemesis.
